If you struggle with vision problems, you may be wondering if a laser vision correction procedure such as LASIK may be the solution to your condition.LASIK is an FDA approved procedure that is very effective, and has an impressive safety record. Many of the people considering thisprocedure ask the question – How long does the LASIK procedure last?
What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis) is a vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea. It is recommended for the treatment of refractive eye problems namely, nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
During the procedure the ophthalmologist will create a corneal flap, which is pulled back to allow access to the inner layers of the cornea. An excimer laser is then used to reshape the cornea.
Candidates for LASIK must be 18 years or older, and have at least 12 months of stable vision prior to surgery.
How Long Does the LASIK Procedure Last?
LASIK takes about 15 minutes to perform, and is a long term solution for refractive vision problems. Since it gets rid of the imperfections of the cornea that cause these refractive errors, the results are long-lasting. LASIK corrects the vision prescription present at the time of surgery, but it is possible that the eyes may change in the future. Despite this, theywon’t go back to the way they were before LASIK.
