If you are considering liposuction, obviously you’ll want to know what to expect during and after surgery. Understanding the recovery process can certainly help to accelerate healing and ensure optimal results. But how long is recovery from liposuction?
Are you a good candidate for liposuction?
If you have a few areas of unwanted fat that won’t budge despite healthy eating and regular exercise, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. Liposuction is a safe, effective way to remove stubborn pockets of fat and contour the body.
How long is recovery from liposuction?
Recovery from liposuction typically takes 1-2 weeks. However, the timeframe will differ for each patient depending on the specific liposuction technique performed, and the volume of fat removed.
Tumescent liposuction and Vaser liposuction are two of the most common liposuction techniques. Recovery is faster after Vaser liposuction because ultrasound energy is used to liquefy the fat being removed, so there is less injury to the surrounding tissue.
Patients should follow their surgeon’s aftercare instructions to ensure they heal as expected after liposuction.
What to expect during recovery?
There is typically some swelling, bruising, and soreness in the treatment area after liposuction. Patients are usually fitted with a compression garment to help decrease swelling and bruising. However, swelling can take up to 6 months to fully resolve.
Most patients can return to work 5-7 days after liposuction. Normal activities can be resumed within 7 days, but strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 4 weeks.
