How often should I get chemical peels?

Are you thinking about getting a chemical peel?   You won’t be disappointed with the results, because a chemical peel will refresh your complexion, and renew the appearance of your skin.  But how often should you get chemical peels.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a skin rejuvenation treatment in which a chemical solution is used to exfoliate the top layers of the skin.  Removing the dead, dull skin cells has remarkable benefits because it brightens the complexion, and remedies a variety of skin concerns.

How often should I get chemical peels?

The frequency with which you should get a chemical peel will depend on the type of peel being done, as well as your specific skin needs.  There are different types of chemical peels, light, medium, and deep, and they vary based on how deeply they penetrate the skin.

Light peels are typically done using glycolic acid or salicylic acid, and can resolve issues such as mild scars, dullness, and age spots.  Light peels are gentle and require about 1-7 days of recovery.  They can be done every 4 weeks (learn more).

Medium peels are generally carried out using trichloroacetic acid (TCA).  They treat skin concerns such as fine wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and deep scars.   Recovery after a medium peel ranges from 7-14 days.  Patients are advised to wait at least 3 months before repeating the procedure.

Deep peels penetrate down to the deepest layers of the dermis.  They are used to address problems such as severe sun damage and coarse wrinkles.  A deep peel is only done once.
