The Basics of San Francisco Body Fat Transfer

If you have unwanted fat in your abdomen or thighs that you want gone, then body fat transfer can make that possible. The procedure is widely performed by doctors in San Francisco in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Body fat transfer is used in a number of cosmetic procedures such as butt augmentation and breast augmentation, and is considered a safer alternative to implants.

Body fat transfer is also known as autologous fat transfer, or micro-lipoinjection. It is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the transfer of fat from areas of the body where there is an excess amount, to a site that needs volume. This type of surgery is considered safer, because it transplants fat from the patient’s own body to the donor sites. Preferable donor sites include the lower abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, and inner knees.

In addition to butt and breast augmentation, the fat can be used to fill in wrinkles on the face. It can also be used to plump up cheeks and lip lines, as well as skin depressions on different parts of the body.

How is body fat transfer done?

Fat cells are harvested from the donor sites using a very small needle, or a liposuction cannula. After the fat is removed it is processed, before being injected into the body at the specific treatment area.

The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia, and can be done in the surgeon’s office.  It usually lasts for about 1 hour or less. Very little recovery time is needed after fat grafting, so patients can quickly resume regular activities.

Advantages of body fat transfer

If you have body fat transfer surgery performed, you are actually having 2 procedures done at the same time, that is, liposuction and augmentation. This will improve body contours, as fat is removed from one area and re-introduced into another part of the body where fullness is lacking.

Since fat grating involves the use of the patient’s own fat cells, there is little or no risk of an allergic reaction. In addition, the body will not reject the tissue.

If you want to add fullness to areas of your body, then ask your San Francisco plastic surgeon if you would be a good candidate for body fat transfer. The technique can be done on individuals of varying skin types, and the results are long lasting.
