What Is The Recovery Time For A Neck Lift?

Are you contemplating neck lift surgery to improve the look of your neckline?   A neck lift can certainly help you achieve the naturally beautiful neckline you desire.  When discussing the procedure with your surgeon be sure to find out what is the recovery time for a neck lift, so that you have realistic expectations of the recovery timeframe.

What Is A Neck Lift?

A neck lift (platysmaplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that is done to tighten and tone the neck to create a more contoured jawline.   A neck lift addresses loose neck skin and protruding platysmal bands that often occur with age.

During neck lift surgery, the surgeon will tighten sagging skin as well as the underlying platysma muscle, to improve the overall tone and definition of the neck.

A neck lift is often done in combination with complementary procedures such as a facelift or chin augmentation, to improve facial rejuvenation results.

What Is The Recovery Time For A Neck Lift?

The amount of time it takes to recover from a neck lift can vary, but most patients can resume work and regular activities about 2 weeks after surgery.

There is typically some swelling, bruising, tightness, and numbness after neck lift surgery, and the neck will be tender to the touch.  A cold compress can be used to help reduce the swelling.  Stitches are usually removed about 1 week after surgery.   As the swelling goes down over the following days the new jawline contours will become visible.

Patients should follow the post-surgical instructions provided by their plastic surgeon as this will limit potential side-effects and complications.
