Can I get liposuction in my neck?

Weight gain in the neck area can be an unfavorable consequence of aging, and the resulting heaviness hides facial contours. Getting rid of that unwanted neck fat can be frustrating, because it’s difficult to burn fat from the neck with exercise. But since liposuction can remove fat from other locations, can you get liposuction on your neck.

What causes neck fat?
The accumulation of fat in the neck is commonly associated with aging or weight gain, but it may also be the result of genetic factors.

Can you have liposuction on your neck?
If you have excessive build-up of fat in the neck area, you can have liposuction to remove it. Neck liposuction will contour the chin and dramatically improve the neckline. The procedure also sculpts the neck and reshapes the entire area.

Candidates for neck liposuction should have smooth skin and good skin elasticity. Having relatively firm skin is important because liposuction only removes fat, but does not improve sagging skin.

Neck liposuction – The procedure
Neck liposuction can be performed using local or general anesthesia. Tiny incisions are made either below the chin or behind the ears, and the fat is carefully removed using a cannula (small hollow tube) with suction.

Neck liposuction takes 30-60 minutes to perform, depending on the extent of the area being treated, and is virtually painless. There will be some temporary bruising and swelling after surgery, as well as some numbness, but this should resolve within 5-7 days (learn more).
