If you would like to enhance the appearance of your lips, lip augmentation may be the right option for you. Lips lose their fullness and structure over time, but a lip augmentation can restore lip volume and definition. But is a lip augmentation permanent?
What is lip augmentation?
Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that adds volume to the lips and refines their appearance.
Is lip augmentation permanent?
Lip augmentation can be done with silicone implants or with dermal fillers. Silicone implants are a permanent lip augmentation solution, whereas dermal fillers are temporary and can last anywhere from 6-12 months.
Lip augmentation with fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are the most frequent choice for lip augmentation because they make the lips look fuller naturally. In addition, HA fillers have an excellent safety profile and the results can be reversed using hyaluronidase.
Juvederm Volbella by Allergan is a Hyaluronic acid filler that has been specially formulated to provide fuller, lusher lips. Volbella also fills in the lines and wrinkles around the mouth. The results of lip augmentation with Juvederm Volbella can last up to 12 months.
How lip augmentation works
During lip augmentation, a tiny needle is used to inject carefully measured doses of the dermal filler into the lips. The HA molecules attract and bind water, and this lifts and plumps the skin, creating fuller lips.
Lip augmentation with dermal fillers is a quick, straightforward procedure that takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
What to expect after lip augmentation
Swelling and bruising are common side-effects of lip augmentation, but should only last a few days.
